Wednesday March 21

So today was an exciting day. I worked on a design for the summer employee pass and color correct some more photos in the morning. Then in the afternoon, a lady came in and checked out my design for the all season pass that I had been working on and the design for the employee pass and she ended up liking them, so my design will be on this summers employee pass and the design that I has originally made for the All-Season pass will be on next seasons Weak-Day pass, which is really exciting for me.

Project Proposal

This year, as a junior at Animas High School, I will be participating in the first L.I.N.K. internship. This will be a big step into my career life, as I will be spending three weeks of my junior year learning about something that I am interested in doing for the rest of my life. It will help me determine if I am actually interested in pursuing what I believe I want to pursue. This, in turn, will help me decide where I want to go to college because it will narrow down my college search, which will greatly affect the rest of my life.

For my internship, I will be working with the Manager of Graphic Design for Durango Mountain Resort (DMR), Sarah Olsen. Durango Mountain Resort is our local ski mountain, located about 45 minutes north of Durango. Being on of the greatest tourist attractions of this area, DMR hosts a lot of events such as live music and holiday celebrations, which need advertisements and publicity.

My mentor, Sarah Olsen is in charge of creating and posting all of the posters and advertisements for these events. The way that I obtained an opportunity such as this is actually through my art teacher Roxy McKnight. She knew Sara, and suggested that I approach her with the possibility of mentoring me because of my interest in digital arts. Using graphic design as the medium for these events advertisements, Sarah can offer me insight into the graphic design world and give me a feel for what it is like to have a career in graphic design. This will really help me in my future life because I am very interested in pursuing a future in graphic design or digital arts.

For a project, I will be creating a poster for an event at DMR on the computer, printing it, and posting it around town. As a first step to arriving at the final goal of producing my own poster, I will assist Sarah with printing and posting poster that she created. Then, I will learn about the actual designing and fabricating of the posters. Finally, I will be assigned an event to create a poster for. I will then produce a poster for that event on Photoshop.

For the Exhibition at the end of the internship, I will display my final project along with some of the steps it took to get there and my internship blog.

To prepare myself for this Internship, I have acquired a new computer that is capable of running Photoshop on it. Photoshop will be a great convenience to me during my internship because I will be able to work on designing posters for my project on my own time instead of having to use a school computer or a computer on the site of my internship.

I am assuming that the first week of the internship will be spent observing and assisting Sarah in her work. After the first week, I believe that I will gradually move to working on my own and creating and producing work on my own.

To me, this internship seems to be one that not much can go wrong. There aren’t to many moving parts involved in it. However, if something does end up going wrong, I will have to play it by ear and judge what needs to be done by assessing the situation and the solutions available to me.

Being such a big experience in my high school career, I am extremely excited for it. Not only will I be spending three weeks learning about things that I am completely interested in, but also, I will be learning about something that I might be doing for a future career.
